Like most internet publishers, Refinery29 pivoted to video in late 2015. The newly-formed video department grew exponentially in its first two years, producing women-centered, inclusive content for an array of social channels including Snapchat Discover, Instagram, Youtube, and Facebook. From fashion to travel to deep dives into consent, sex education, racism, ableism, and LGBTQIA issues, the creatives at Refinery29 strived to create aesthetically dynamic work for its sharp, young viewership that explored ideas nobody else was covering.
Crafting a variety of work like See Hear Now, Try Living with Lucie, Get Real, Game of Life, Macro Beauty, and hundreds of others, creatives were able to explore the ways viewers interact with the same content on different social channels through close study between analytics and content.
Jess’s title at this company was supervising story producer.
During her tenure at Refinery29, the 20-person post team delivered 50+ videos weekly. Jess was in charge of overseeing all video assets creatively and logistically by shaping story and providing technical feedback until each video was up to standard. This included working with GFX, editing scripts with producers, and overseeing shoots as well reviewing and approving every version of every cut.
Jess also ensured each asset was delivered optimized for social channels based on analytics best practices.
She received the “Magnetic Collaborator” award from her peers in 2017.
